1987 marlboro miles swiss army watch5/2/2024 (It helps that the crystal does not protrude, so the force was applied only to the front and back of the metal case). I don't have a case press, but I do have a 1-ton arbor press, so I put the watch case sandwiched between a couple of pieces of wood to protect the surface into the arbor press. That didn't work with the other, no matter how hard I pressed. With one, I was able to press down hard with my hands and get it to snap back on. However, the backs require a *lot* of pressure to re-install. There is no special "lip" to insert a prying tool, but I opened both watches easily enough with a case knife. (Both use a Ronda 515 movement).īoth cases have snap-on backs. The #395 is about 0.5 mm thicker than the #371, so it wasn't held in place by the metal lip that's supposed to hold the battery. But it did have a #395 installed in place of the correct #371 or SR920SW. The other watch did not have a leaking battery (whew!). Otherwise, I would have had to solder a new strip of metal to the stub that remained. After cleaning away the chemical residue and corroded metal, there was just enough contact length left to still work. Fortunately, the alkaline electrolyte did not get into the electronics or mechanics the battery contact was the only thing damaged. One of them had a leaking battery (Renata) which had corroded away most of the negative battery contact. I bought both of mine used and not running. The other has a plainer case without the "steps" front and back, but has a black plastic trim ring around the edge at the front.įirst, definitely get the old battery out of the watch if it stopped running a year ago. One has exactly the case shown in the photo above (though the dial is blue instead of white).
